March In Music - The Last Ten Years

This is just a pick of musical events that have happened in March over the last ten years:

2005 -
On March the 26th 2005, drummer of Crowded House, Paul Hester, is found dead in a park in Melbourne, Australia. Formed in 1985, Crowded House have released six albums in their career together, their most recent in 2010. 

Crowded House won numerous awards throughout their career; they have won eleven ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) awards and eight APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) Awards. Their song 'Don't Dream It's Over' won them an MTV Video Music Award for 'Best New Artist' in 1987. Crowded House were also named International Group Of The Year at The Brit Awards in 1994. 


2006 - 
In 2006, Three Six Mafia became the first African-American hip-hop group to win an Academy Award with their song 'It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp' winning Best Song. 








2007 -
On March the 25th 2007, to celebrate his sixtieth birthday, Elton John plays Madison Square Garden for the sixtieth time setting a record for the most performances at Madison Square Garden. The performance had an audience of celebrities such as Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams and former President Bill Clinton.








2008 -
On March 7th 2008, the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival takes place in Indonesia. The festival was held for the first time in 2005 when around 125 groups and 1,405 artists performed. The attendance of the three day festival was attended by 47,500 visitors. The Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival is an annual festival in Indonesia and is constantly growing. 





2009 -
On March the 5th 2009, Michael Jackson announced his last concerts, 'This Is It'. The tour was planned for July 2009 but unfortunately never went ahead following Michael Jackson's death on June the 25th, 2009.







2010 -
On March the 2nd 2010, Lil wayne was meant to appear in court for a prison sentence but the date was delayed due to a fire in the court. He finally appeared in court on March the 9th 2010 and was given a one year prison sentence for having a loaded firearm on his tour bus.







2011 -
On March the 15th 2011, nate Dogg died at the age of 41. In 1990 Nate Dogg formed 213 with Snoop Dogg and warren G and his career started from there. 











2012 -
On March the 3rd 2012, Adele became the first female artist to have three singles all in the top ten of the Billboard Hot hundred. Adele was also the first female artist to have two albums in the top five of the Billboard two hundred and two singles in the top five of the Billboard Hot Hundred at the same time.






2013 -
On March the 22nd 2013, My Chemical Romance announced they were breaking up after their twelve year long career together. Throughout their career they released four studio albums, two live albums and two compilation albums, six extended plays, twenty five singles, and four video albums. Their most recent compilation album was released March the 25th 2014.





2014 -
On March the 27th 2014, Christine McVie rejoined Fleetwood Mac after her 16 year semi-retirement from the band. In 2013 Christine McVie took to the stage with Fleetwood Mac for one song at their O2 arena gigs in London. The band along with Christine then went on a thirty-three day tour in October of that year.
