December In Music - The Last Ten Years

This is just a pick of musical events that have happened in December over the last ten years.



2004 -


On the 8th of December 2004, Darrel Lance Abbott, usually known as Dimebag Darrell was shot and murdered on stage in Columbus, Ohio. The gunman killed three other people and severely injured several others before being shot by police. 


Dimebag Darrell was a guitarist and was best known for being the founding member of both Pantera and Damageplan.








2005 - 


On the 21st of December 2005, Elton John gets married in London. He was married in London due to the new British gay marriage legalization.







2006 -

On the 13th of December 2006, David Silveria leaves Korn to manage his restaurant. David Silveria was the drummer for Korn and was with the band from 1993. David owned a sushi restaurant and steak house. There were rumours that he was joining another band which was called Satellite Syndrome but the rumours were false. Ray Luzier has since been named the permanent drummer since Silveria. 







2007 - 


On the 10th of December 2007, Led Zeppelin reunite for the first time in 25 years, Their comeback gig was hosted at London's O2 Arena (more on this at Band Reunions Post)






2008 - 

On the 9th of December 2008, it is announced by Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon that Blur will reunite at Hyde Park in 2009. The tickets for the concert sold out within two minutes. 








2009 - 


On the 20th of December 2009, Rage Against The Machine take the top spot of the UK Christmas Charts with 'Killing In The Name'. This was due to, originally, a Facebook campaign to beat the X-Factor winner to the top of the charts.








2010 - 


On the 9th of December 2010, Jim Morrison is finally granted a posthumous pardon after a long 39 year wait since his death. The pardon relates to an act of indecent exposure in Miami 1969. A posthumous pardon means that basically, if an act of crime happened without a court hearing before the offenders death, the offender is then innocent after death. 







2011 - 

On the 6th of December Korn's 10th studio album 'The Path Of Totality' debuts at number 10 on the Billbourd 200. The album sold 55,000 copies in it's first week marking the beginning of a new direction for nu metal. Artists such as Skrillex contributed to the album which gave the album a dup step sound on some of the tracks which gave the album an original feel when it comes to the metal genre. 







2012 - 


The Django Unchained album was released which was nominated for a Grammy Award for 'Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media'. 







2013 - 

On the 18th of December 2013 Former Lostprophets lead singer Ian Watkins was sentenced to 29 years in prison after pleading guilty to thirteen child sexual offences. The remaining members of Lostprophets have since started a new band called 'No Devotion' with new front man Geoff Rickley. The band have said they will never play former Lostprophets songs with their new band. Also all Lostprophets music has been taken off most download sights and is no longer for sale in most shops.
